How do you tell a story with many voices? At Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, SRS incorporated multiple perspectives about this Japanese internment camp to spark dialogue about past, present, and future violations of civil liberties. Exhibit text is written in the first person plural to directly communicate the experiences, memories, and emotions of the internees. As they exit the exhibition, visitors have the chance to write messages on ID tags like the ones that internees wore; adding these messages to a barbed wire fence, visitors help create a living memorial to healing and remembrance.
