Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Split Rock Studios created exhibits at the Great Lake Maritime Heritage Center that tell the story of shipping and commerce on the Great Lakes throughout the last 150 years. Visitors can experience a Great Lakes storm and touch the massive timbers of an historic wreck, without ever getting wet!

The highlight of the “Exploring the Shipwreck Century” exhibit is an immersive walk-through  experience. Visitors enter a replica 1895 schooner framed by a dramatic mural of a storm raging on Lake Michigan. An audiovisual program of the storm plays in the portholes and along the decks as visitors move through the storm-tossed ship. Visitors exit the ship into a replica of what remains today – a shipwreck deep below the lake.

Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center

Working with designers Lyons/Zaremba, Split Rock built dynamic and interactive exhibits for the Eco-Discovery Center, the official visitor center of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.  The center celebrates both the terrestrial and rich underwater habitats of one of the most diverse ecosystems in North America.

The exhibit blends immersive environments with state-of-the-art technology. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a large diorama with sculpted hardwood hammock trees.  Elsewhere, large photomurals give visitors the impression of swimming through sunlit coral reefs.

Visitors can use touch screen computer displays throughout the exhibit to learn about conservation efforts affecting the Florida Keys.
