These exhibits were developed for the McConnell Centers new home in the Ekstrom Library addition. Named for founder Senator Mitch McConnell, the Center provides deserving Kentucky students an opportunity to develop leadership skills through special programs and travel opportunities.
Exhibits located outside the doors of the McConnell Center focus on Kentuckys proud legacy of political leadership. The centerpiece exhibit features a life-size sculpture of Henry Clay delivering his famous address to the Senate, and highlights significant public leaders from the state. On the reverse side, visitors find an overview of how the US Senate works, and graphic panels honoring all of Kentuckys senators.
Adjacent display cases house information about the McConnell Center programs, the 2001 Presidential Inauguration, and a collection of political memorabilia.
On the lower level, two display cases highlight the careers of Senator Mitch McConnell and his wife, Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. A third case presents information about the Centers lecture series, which brings important political leaders from the U.S. and around the world to the University of Louisville.
Split Rock Studios worked directly with Senator McConnell and Secretary Chao, as well as the director of the Center, to develop these exhibits.
